Although we are almost halfway through 2014; I thought I’d share my travel plans for the remaining 6 months of this year.
I’ve been living in New Zealand for the past 2.5 years, and will be leaving to travel around Asia for a little over four months.
I am excited, scared, nervous, … I am again going into the unknown. A new chapter. New adventures. Feel free to follow my travels through my blog, Facebook Page, Instagram or Twitter.
Here are the destinations I plan to hit up this year
(All photos belong to me, added after my 2014 travels)
1. Bali, Indonesia: My first stop, where I’ll spend two weeks .. I am not planning a lot, just looking forward to recharging, and unwinding. (I actually ended up hiking up a volcano, and almost got my clothes stolen).
2. Singapore, Singapore
I’ve been to Singapore once before, but on a short stop over, and didn’t think too much of it, so I’m looking forward to seeing whether it can surprise me.
3. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A new destination, where I don’t plan to stay too long, as I’m not a huge city fan, but excited to see what mainland Malaysia offers (and for the food of course!)
4. Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia
Spending a few weeks here in July, looking forward to meeting the Orang-utans, getting into the Jungle, doing a bit of diving and maybe (just maybe) tackle Mount Kinabalu (the highest peak in South East Asia!) At the moment, this is the destination that I am most looking forward to!
5. More places in Malaysia (I actually spent almost one month in Malaysia, and hit up Georgetown, as well as The Cameron Highlands)
6. Vietnam
Planning on spending approximately 3 weeks here, travelling North to South (I had 3 weeks, and travelled South to North).
7. Cambodia
Planning on at least 2 weeks in Cambodia.
8. Laos
I don’t know a lot about Laos, but excited about discovering it. I’d love three weeks here.
9. Thailand (I ended up in Krabi, Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Chiang Rai, Koh Tao and Koh Samui)
Depending on the political situation, I will head to Thailand, where I’ll meet my sister, and chill out in the islands for a little while.
10. Java, Indonesia
The end of my travels in Asia takes my back to the country I started in: Indonesia. I’ll be spending my birthday here, with my sister.
11. London, England, UK
Back to the UK for the first time in 14 months (my first visit back was after 19 months). Aiming to be back mid October, for a friends hen party. I haven’t been in the UK for Autumn/Winter since 2011.
12. Northern Ireland, UK
I’ll be returning to my home town of Coleraine, at some stage in November to see my family, and will have my first ‘proper Christmas’ (cold Christmas) in 3 years.
My original list contained Japan and Hong Kong, which due to flight prices and time, I didn’t get to. I did however visit Brunei.

[…] Well today, I’ve done just that, and on Tuesday, I’m off on my Asian backpacking adventures. […]
[…] I love public holidays. They’re a chance to unwind from the stresses of work, have a sleep in, if you want and talk non stop about how exciting it is to have a four day week. (I am truly looking forward to being able to make travel my job at some point this year!) […]

Gosh Abbi, it all sounds so exciting.
I loved reading all about NZ but the next stage and few months sound even more exciting!!!!
Maybe we’ll get to see each other again when you’re back at this side of the world 🙂
Hi Chele,
Thanks for you comment! I have loved New Zealand, but it’s time to get out and see what the rest of the World offers! I’d love to catch up, when I’m ‘home’ (wherever that may be now). Will you be in Ireland at any point this year. I can always come to you. Not been to Luxembourg yet … does it have good snow in Winter and Ski fields around?
Take care 🙂
