Easter happenings in Christchurch

I have had a relatively relaxed few days off for Easter. Last year I went on an epic road trip over the four days, which was exceptionally tiring, but amazing all the same.

I have mentioned before how I want to try and remain in Christchurch a lot more this year, and get to know it, connect with my local community and watch it grow (Plus I am trying to save to go away in July).

My flatmate has had her family over from Australia for the past week or so, which has been nice, as I did stay with them on my recent trip to Sydney, so it was nice to catch up again.

A present from my flatmates family. We later wore the Easter bunny ears (and tails) to dinner like mad ejjits!

On Thursday evening we had a meal, and stayed in and watched the DVD ‘a city falls’ which I totally recommend watching if you are a tourist/traveller to give you an idea of what happened here (Christchurch earthquakes from 2010-11). It is very graphic and probably not for everyone; especially local people.

Good Friday evening I headed down to church for a Good Friday church service, which was really special. The hall was dark, only lit with lanterns at the side of the room.

I attempted several times to go for a run at the weekend, in keeping up with my supposed Half Marathon training, but it was far too warm – we have had weather ranging from 25 to 30 degrees, which is strange for this time of year. In fact it was much colder this time last year. I remember on the first day of April I was sat with a woollen top on, directly under the heat pump to keep warm.

I have had a great weekend of reflection and relaxation, and really enjoyed spending the time doing very little.

On Easter Sunday evening I headed down to a restaurant called King of Snake, which is on the newly developed and ever developing Victoria Quarter on Victoria Street. King of Snake is a South-East Asian place, and is extremely amazing for food.

The place itself is well set out with various height tables, as well as longer bench tables for sharing. It has a variety of colours in its interior, with awesome lighting. A lovely warm feel to it.
The dinning experience itself is similar to Tapas; the menu is there for sharing, which is pretty good as when I initially looked at the menu and saw some mains were around $35-45 I freaked a little.

We ended up paying $50 each which included about 3 drinks each as well. Well worth it.

This is what we went out dressed to dinner in: we got some odd looks!

San Chow Bow (with a whole lettuce!!)

I don’t often eat out in Christchurch, unless it is a quick takeaway, but this is something I’d like to try and explore more of. Incredible meal, and somewhere I will definitely return to.
