Staying in an Urban Retreat at the Passage, Basel

City breaks are a great way to see a new country in a short period of time. Cities are a great hub with good transport links, and have a host of activities and culture to explore. 

Sometimes it can be difficult to choose where to stay in a city. Many people wish to be in the city centre, and close to transport links and tourist attractions. However, these hotels can often be busy and noisy.

When choosing a hotel for my recent trip to Basel, I had to think carefully. I wanted somewhere that was in the city, but also a haven to relax after a long day of exploring.

Luckily I found both of these things at the Passage Hotel.

Location

The Passage is a perfectly placed hotel for exploring the city of Basel, and is within a 10 minute walk from the main train station and the city centre.

Affordable Luxury

The Passage is a 4* hotel, and from the moment you arrive you can see why. The lobby is bright and spacious with plenty of communal places to relax and enjoy the company of your travel companions.

There is a large courtyard outside, which is perfect for enjoying breakfast in the morning, or that early evening drink.

 Rooms

We stayed in an executive room on the 4th floor facing the courtyard. The room was large, with all the essential amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the triple glazed windows and black out blinds ensured a good night sleep.

We loved having the iPod docking station, to charge our phone and listen to music whilst we were relaxing The coffee machine, and safe to store our valuables were also great additions.

The bathroom was large and modern and had the most amazing rainforest shower, with lots of mini tolietries provided to keep us clean.

Facilities

The Passage Hotel offers a number of additional facilities including a state of the art fitness centre, with a range of high tech equipment to ensure you can have a great workout.

There is also a sauna next to the gym if you want to relax after your workout.

If you are travelling for business, there is a business centre on the first floor, which you can book out for meetings.

Parking

If you arrive into Basel by car, there is a secure care park underneath the hotel.

WiFi 

There is free and high speed WiFi throughout the hotel, allowing you to stay connected throughout your trip.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the bar area next to reception, but can also be brought to your room. The breakfast options are varied and delicious. Options include a warm cooked breakfast such as eggs and sausages, as well as cold meats, salad and fruit.

There are a variety of cereals, breads and pastieres and a range of tea and filter coffee. Breakfast at the Passage Hotel will set you up for a day of exploring for sure.

Staff

The team at the Passage Hotel were wonderful. We were treated well by the friendly and knowledgable staff, who were able to advise us about exploring Basel. Nothing was too much trouble, and it made us very comfortable knowing that they were there to help. At the end of our stay, we were able to store our luggage in a safe place, until we were ready to return to the airport.

We had a wonderful time staying at The Passage Hotel, and would recommend it as a great place to stay, when visiting Basel.
