Health is something we need to reinforce whilst we’re on holiday. Sure, you’ve taken yourself off to a tropical beach to enjoy the sun, the sea, and the sand, but that doesn’t mean you’re now suddenly immune to sunburn and any skin issues arising from too much exposure! You’re going to have to make a liberal use of sunblock, and keep an eye on those moles on the backs of your arms.
All in all, when you’re off jet setting around the globe, you still have yourself to take care of. You still have to find and refill your medicines as and when it’s necessary, and you’ve got to be sure you’ll never be stuck without a pharmacy or doctor in sight. After all, you’re a responsible adult now, and that means responsibility taking the world by storm!
So, if you’re currently on the lookout for healthy travel tips, listen up! If you’ve got a chronic illness to look out for, or just a bad batch of allergies to be mindful of, a few things are going to be done differently whilst you’re backpacking to find yourself. And without further ado, we’ve got the ideas you’ll need to stay good and well whilst on holiday.

Stay on Top of a Diet
Whilst you’re off on your travels, it’s important to use a diet to help you on your way. After all, the longer you spend away, the more good and healthy food you’re going to have to invest in, and thus it’s key to know your diet and budget beforehand. Of course, you’re going to want to eat locally, and treat yourself quite a few times while you’re backpacking through a foreign country, but hopefully you’ll be able to balance those moments out with more stable and substantial eating.
Start your diet plan at home, before you go – preparation is everything here! Try to pick up non-perishable foods for long journeys, like if you’re going on a walking holiday or have a lot of backpacking to do in between flights or cruises. Nut and grain bars, dried fruits etc., are are all good options for you here.
And if you can compromise here and there, the more’s the better. Maybe you don’t want to be eating a burger and fries for days on end whilst exploring the big city, but if you swap half of those carbs out for something like sweet potato fries, you’ll do your gut a big favour!
Order Any Serious Meds Online
If you’re someone who has a chronic condition to take care of, you’re going to need to stock up on your medication before you go. And if you’re in a rush, you might want to order online for a smoother, faster experience – if you don’t have time to hit the doctors before you go, this would be perfect for you.
You can also easily file repeat prescriptions from here, on a schedule that works for you, giving you a travel timeframe to work with.
Be sure to pack a doctor’s note in your bag as well, just in case you ever get stopped or pulled over whilst travelling and asked some questions about the amount of painkillers you have in the glove box!
Be Wary of Alcohol Risks
When you’re off on your travels, there’s a good chance you’re going to be drinking more frequently than you would whilst at home. And if you take up too many shots down the tropical bar, or too many glasses of wine in the hotel at once, you might just move too fast too soon for your body. You’ll need to pace yourself, and don’t worry, that’s easier than it sounds when you’re trying to have fun!
If you do slam a few back in a row, you’re going to dehydrate yourself pretty quickly, seeing as alcohol is a diuretic and ends up draining you in the end. So go slow, and try to enjoy yourself in moderation. A drink here and there will go down a treat whilst you’re on your trip, and now you know you’re doing your body a favour too!
And if you’re going to a much more hot climate for the winter time, you’re going to need to keep an eye on the amount of alcohol you consume with extra vigilance. Drinking makes you feel warmer in the first place, thanks to the way you digest the stuff, and when it’s already pretty hot outside, that could end up being a recipe for disaster for your brain and body.
Make Time for Enjoyable Exercise
And as always, when traveling, try to make sure you’re getting enough exercise. If you’ve been on a very long journey already, you’re going to need to stretch those legs of yours and get the blood flowing! But seeing as you’re on holiday, exercise might be the last thing you want to do. And because of that, it’s time to find something enjoyable to do.
Thankfully, seeing as there’s a lot to do whilst you’re traveling your way through a foreign country, you won’t be short of options. Getting your laps in whilst swimming in the ocean, beach ball or volleyball whilst you’re resting on the beach, walking through calm and tranquil forests whilst you’re trying to explore, etc. All of these options would work great for you!
If you’re a bit of a gym lover but can’t make it to a gym then you could consider using an online personal trainer to get advice or a quick bodyweight exercise progamme that you could do in your hotel room or even on the beach.
Make Sure Your Travel Periods Are Healthy!
It might seem like it’ll take a lot, and you don’t want to put the effort in seeing as you’re on holiday, but you really can stay healthy whilst you’re traveling. There’s a lot you can do easily to make sure you’re in the best shape, before and after you go off and come home again, so use tips like these to smooth the way.
